Navelim Villagers Union shunted out St Anthony's Sports Club 6-5 via the tie-breaker to storm into the semi-final of All Goa 26th Super Soccer tournament organized by United Boys of Dando- Colva at St John the Baptist grounds, Dando-Benaulim on Sunday. Both the teams were tied 2-2 at the end of normal period.
Navelim Villagers Union held majority of ball possession in the opening session while St Anthony's Sports Club, Assolda were happy to defend in numbers. Navelim Villagers' breakthrough came in the 13th minute when Alvito Colaco controlled the ball well and foxed the rival defenders and slotted past the rival goalkeeper with snap shot. Spurred by the early success, Navelim Villagers Union continued to attack with Alvito Colaco troubling the rival defense with well orchestrated raids.
Crossing over, St Anthony's Sports Club came out of their shells and neutralized the lead in the 36th minute when Sydney Vaz bulged the net. Buoyed by the equalizer, St Anthony's Sports Club put tremendous pressure on the rival citadel and their efforts bore the fruit when striker Socorro Fernandes flicked the ball into the net to put his team in front 2-1 in the 40th minute. Stung by the reverse, Navelim Villagers Union tried their best to get back into the game and in the dying minutes Elrich Coelho restored parity.
In the ensuing penalty-shoot out, Naveen Pereira, Joseph Dias, Elrich Coelho and Clive Mascarenhas found the mark for Navelim Villagers Union while Joseph Fernandes, Stanley Hadangali and Vicky Fernandes converted for St Anthony's Sports Club, Assolda.
