Navhind Publications beat Tarun Bharat 1-0 to win the inter-media nine-a-side football tournament organised by Sports Journalists Association of Goa in collaboration with Don Bosco Oratory, Goa Football Development Council and Sporting Clube de Goa.
In the finals at DBO ground here on Saturday evening, Navhind scored a hard-fought solitary goal victory with Amaresh Parab’s first-half goal proving the match-winning contribution. Tarun Bharat had earlier missed an easy chance and in the end, the missed opportunities hurt them. Navhind also failed to make the most of the goal-scoring chances in the second half.
GFDC chairman Dr Rufino Monteiro, Sporting Clube de Goa Chief Executive Officer Victor Fernandes and Don Bosco Oratory’s Fr Ralin de Souza were the special guests and gave away the prizes.
Amresh Parab of Navhind was adjudged as man-of-the finals, Navhind captain Kishore Kamat was named player-of-the tournament. A special prize was presented to oldest player of the tournament, 64-year-old Wilfred Pereira (Herald).
