MARGAO: Pax of Nagoa Sports Club hammered hosts St Anthony's Sports Club ,Assolda 4-1 via the tie-breaker to storm into the semi final of the All Goa St Joseph Festival inter village football tournament organised by St Anthony's Sports Club, Assolda at Panchayat ground, Assolda on Tuesday . Both the teams were goalless after the regulation period .
Both the teams played attacking soccer . The scoring opportunities were equal but the forwards failed to score.
Host St Anthony's Sports Club nearly broke the deadlock after the kick off but striker Sunny Fernandes balloned over from close .At the other end, Pax of Nagoa Sports Club did not lag behind as their forwards troubled the rival defense through well orchestrated moves.
Midway in the opening session, Pax of Nagoa Sports Club had a chance to surge ahead but Eusbeio Fernandes rasping shot was well blocked by Assolda goalkeeeper .Crossing over, both teams went into the attacking mode in search of the elusive winner but , their forwards muffed gilt edged chances .
St Anthony's Sports Club slowly took control but disapointed the home crowd as their forwards were inept in reaching the rival danger zone . The host team were hampered by poor finishing which saw striker Sunny Fernandes shoot wide from close range .With time running out, Pax of Nagoa Sports Club went all out and nearly struck but Eusebio Fernandes snap shot missed the target narrowly .
In the penalty shoot out, Joseph Fernandes, Savio Fernandes, Roger Branganza and Myron Fernandes were on target for Pax of Nagoa Sports Club while only Carry Vaz was successful for St Anthony's Sports Club .
