Our Lady of Rosary High School, Fatorda blanked Loyola High School, Margao 2-0 to win the Fr Peter SVD Memorial trophy inter school football tournament at SVD Seminary Damon Raia ground on Sunday.
In an evenly contested final, both the teams displayed attacking soccer and kept the crowds on their toes. Loyola High School struck the rhythm early and in the very 3rd minute Rui Noronha sped down the rival penalty box but was thwarted by rival defender Beckham Dias with a neat tackle. At the other end, Our Lady of Rosary's prolific striker Jordan Borges moved menacingly inside the rival penalty box but was thwarted by a rival defender.
Loyola High School had a golden chance to surge ahead but striker Richie Fernandes muffed a sitter with only the rival goalkeeper at his mercy, shooting his try wide. Post resumption, Our Lady of Rosary almost got onto the scoresheet but poor finishing let them down.
The Fatorda team's breakthrough came in the 40th minute when substitute Michael Dias' smart header beat the rival goalkeeper, off a Jordan Borges lob. Jordan sealed the rival fate in the injury time.Our Lady of Rosary High School, Fatorda were richer by Rs 20,000 while Loyola High School had to settle for Rs 15,000. ​R​ui​ Noronha​ ​of Loyola and Nash D'Souza were named best striker and best goalkeeper respectively.
Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo ​Lourenco ​was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of ​ZP Member Fatima Gauncar, Anthony Pango, Arnold D,Costa, John D'Silva, GFA Executive members, other dignitaries and SVD priests.
