A hat-trick from striker Olvin Cardozo enabled Sesa Football Academy Juniors to kick off their campaign in the Geno-GFA First Division League in style as they breezed past a 10-man Curtorim Gymkhana 5-0 at Rosary ground, Navelim on Sunday.

Sesa FA led 3-0 at half time. Apart from Olvin’s hat-trick, captain Anil Chavan and Melvin Lobo netted one

goal each.

Sesa FA dominated the game and winger Anil Chavan put his team ahead when he capitalised on a defensive lapse and intercepted a ball to score in the 19th minute. After a few missed chances, the Sesa FA lads were 2-0 ahead in the 23rd minute when striker Olvin picked a long ball from Melvin Lobo and beat the rival goalkeeper with a stiff shot. In the 36th minute, it was Melvin’s turn to score as he headed home off well taken free kick by Joston

Pereira, 3-0.

Changing over, Curtorim Gymkhana suffered a jolt when Vicky Cardozo was ejected by referee Mario Valles after he committed a reckless foul on rival player Anil Chavan in the 65th minute. The loss of a player hit Curtorim Gymkhana hard as Sesa FA lads stepped up on the gas.

Olvin completed his brace when he connected a ball from substitute Stephen Colaco in the 74th minute. Curtorim Gymkhana had a couple of scoring chances but striker Milagres Fernandes was not clinical enough with his chances. A minute before the long whistle, Olvin completed his hat-trick when he beat the rival goalkeeper with a clinical finish, off a Stephen Colaco assist.

In another match at SAG artificial turf ground, Fatorda, a 55th minute strike by Philip Pazbis helped Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao edge past United Club of Tealulim 1-0.

At Government Village School ground, Ambelim, Cuncolim Union came from behind to hold St Savio Sports Club, Calangute 1-1. St Savio scored first in the 77th minute when Flan Gomes’ found the net with a blistering shot. However three minutes later, Raju Padashi cancelled

the lead.
