Pedda Boys edged out a spirited Kosu Boys 2-1 to win the Calsious Clay Fernandes Memorial Inter-Ward Football Trophy, organised by United Club Benaulim at the Ximbu Moll Grounds, Benaulim.
The match began with Pedda Boys showing attacking intent, though Faisal Bepari was unable to convert a close-range opportunity, while Kosu Boys’ goalkeeper Joshua made some fine saves.
After the halftime break, Pedda scored two quick goals in the space of three minutes, through Calsious Fernandes and Joeburn Maku, putting them in control. Kosu Boys fought back and reduced the deficit when Mark Fernandes stabbed home from inside the box. Despite their efforts to equalise, Pedda’s goalkeeper Roland made crucial saves to secure victory for his team.
The chief guest, Benaulim MLA Capt Venzy Viegas, along with the president of the function, Fr Ligorinho D’Costa (Parish Priest, Holy Trinity Church), and special guests Anthony Mam, Andrew Ferrao, Pele Fernandes, Ressica Fernandes (panch), and Amilcar Babush, were introduced to the teams by club president Doma Fernandes and Franco. The event was compered by Anthony Rodrigues.
Pedda Boys, the winners, were awarded a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 20,000, while runners-up Kosu Boys received a trophy and Rs 15,000.
