Perpetual Succour Convent High School, Navelim edged past Rosary High School, Navelim 2-1 to clinch the Fr Faustino memorial Under-10 inter-school 7-a-side football tournament organised by Perpetual Succour Convent High School, Navelim at their school ground on Saturday. The highlight of the match was a brilliant brace by Sakib Sheikh.
Perpetual Convent took the lead as early as in the 6th minute when promising striker Sakib Sheikh beat the rival goalkeeper with a clinical finish. Three minutes later, Siddesh Biswas unleashed a long ranger to score the equaliser. Stunned by the leveller, Perpetual Convent went into attacking mode and Sakib struck the match winner at the stroke of lemon break.
Perpetual Convent were richer by Rs 3,000 and a glittering trophy while Rosary High School had to settle for Rs 2,000 and a trophy. Mohammed Ali, FC Goa footballer, was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of other dignitaries. Sakib Sheikh of Perpetual Succour Convent High School, Navelim was adjudged as ‘best player of the final’ while Siddesh Biswas of Rosary High School was named as ‘best defender of the final’.
