MARGAO: Winger Phezer Gomes scored a brilliant brace as St Anthony FC Assolda defeated Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda 2-0 to storm into the semi-finals of the 20th Super Soccer Tournament, organised by United Club of Benaulim, at St John the Baptist Ground, Dando, Benaulim.
Both teams began cautiously, but Assolda broke the deadlock in the 12th minute through a well-worked move. Striker Norman Dias threaded a precise through ball to the advancing Phezer Gomes, who shrugged off the challenge of defender Alfred Noronha, rounded goalkeeper Glen Fernandes and slotted into an empty net.
Assolda sealed the contest with another slick attacking move as Norman Dias once again turned provider. His perfectly weighted pass released Phezer Gomes, who beat defender Cayven Araujo and goalkeeper Glen Fernandes before finishing confidently to complete his brace and secure a convincing 2-0 victory.
Phezer Gomes was named Man of the Match, with the award presented by Joe Misquita, President of Candolim SC.
