MARGAO: TP Boys booked their place in the semifinals of the Victor Cardozo Memorial Football Tournament with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over PAK in the second quarter-final.
The opening half was an evenly contested affair, with the youthful PAK outfit putting up a disciplined defensive display against their more experienced opponents. Linton was outstanding at the heart of the PAK defence, while TP Boys struggled to find a breakthrough despite enjoying more of the possession. The teams went into the interval locked in a goalless stalemate.
TP Boys returned with greater urgency after the restart and created a couple of promising opportunities early in the second half. However, PAK goalkeeper Daclan produced a string of fine saves, standing like a wall between the posts to frustrate the attackers.
Just when the match appeared destined for a tie-breaker, TP Boys found the decisive moment. Orlando struck in the penultimate minute of regulation time, netting the winner to silence the vocal PAK supporters and send his side into the last four.
