MARGAO: St Anthony's Sports Club, Assolda, edged past Nuvem Sports Club 2-1 to book their place in the semi-finals of the Fr Basilio Andrade Memorial Football Tournament, organised by Associação Académica de Majorda Utorda Calata at Musson Grounds, Majorda.
Phezer Fernandes was the architect of Assolda's victory, scoring the opener and setting up the decisive goal for Reagan Fernandes.
Assolda started positively, with Albino Gomes testing the opposition defence before goalkeeper Jackson was called into action to deny the Nuvem forward.
The breakthrough came when Sheldon Fernandes was fouled on the right, allowing Phezer to curl a low free-kick towards the far corner. Despite getting a hand to the ball, Nuvem goalkeeper Sharpil failed to keep it out.
Nuvem responded strongly and restored parity through Milroy, who latched on to Darwin's diagonal pass before beating Jackson.
The second half saw Phezer continue to trouble the Nuvem defence. He eventually made the difference with a fine run down the left before delivering a measured cross for Reagan to score from close range.
Nuvem pushed for another equaliser, but Assolda defended resolutely to preserve their lead and seal a place in the last four.
