MARGAO: PVC Parra booked their place in the final of the 20th Super Soccer Inter-Village Football Tournament after edging SC Davorlim 4-3 in a penalty shootout following a gripping 1-1 draw at the St. John the Baptist Panchayat Ground, Benaulim. The tournament is being organised by United Club of Benaulim.
Davorlim reshuffled their attack with Ajay Raj leading the frontline, but Parra's central defensive duo of Christiano Gomes and Sanket Harmalkar kept him well under control. Parra enjoyed more possession, while Davorlim remained threatening on the counter, though neither side could find the breakthrough before the interval.
The contest came alive in the second half as Ceydroy Colaco and Prince Figueredo combined effectively to create openings for Davorlim, while Parra relied on the industry of midfielders Sahil Morajkar and Gaurish Naik to stay in the contest.
Davorlim finally broke the deadlock in the 50th minute when substitute Paxton Gomes headed home Selvin Gomes' perfectly delivered free-kick. Facing elimination, Parra threw numbers forward and were rewarded deep into stoppage time when Purshottam Sawant bundled the ball home from close range after a goalmouth scramble to force penalties.
Parra held their nerve from the spot, converting four penalties to Davorlim's three to clinch victory and secure a place in the final.
Selvin Miranda was named Man of the Match and received the award from GFA Executive Member and City Collection, Margao & Colva proprietor Andrew Ferrao.
