Ranji Trophy: Goa bundle out Mumbai for 163

Ranji Trophy: Goa bundle out Mumbai for 163
Pacer Lakshay Garg picked 6/46 to derail Mumbai.

AHMEDABAD
Pacer Lakshay Garg (6/46) and off-spinner Amit Yadav (4/47) starred as Goa produced one of its best displays to shoot down the mighty Mumbai for 163 on the opening day of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group D game in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

Goa then built on the advantage, reaching 114 for two at stumps as two Desais, Amogh (51) and Suyash Prabhudesai (40), added 56 runs.

Under intense scrutiny in this Ranji campaign, out-of-favour India star Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed for a duck by Garg, who trapped him leg-before wicket with an incoming delivery. Sarfaraz Khan's (63 off 110 balls) half-century was the only saving grace for Mumbai.

Even Prithvi Shaw (9) was out cheaply as Garg got the ball to move both ways to get 44-time champions Mumbai all out in 52.4 overs. Garg got good support from offie Yadav, who scalped four wickets, as Mumbai's only substantial stand was 75 between Sarfaraz and Sachin Yadav (27).

In the other group match, veteran Cheteshwar Pujara lasted for just six balls against Odisha and was dismissed for only 8 runs. However, his team Saurashtra made a strong comeback from being 84 for 3 to end the day with 325 for 4 courtesy a century from Chirag Jani and half-centuries from Sheldon Jackson and Arpit Vasavada.

Meanwhile, another Indian veteran Ishant Sharma bowled just four overs on his return to the Delhi side against Jharkhand. Navdeep Saini bagged three wickets as Delhi bowled out opponents for 251 after a century from Virat Singh.

SCORES: Mumbai 1st Innings: 163 (Sarfaraz Khan 63, Prithvi Shaw 9, Ajinkya Rahane 0, Lakshay Garg 6/46) vs Goa 114/2 (Amogh Desai 51).
