The hosts were all out for 282 in their first innings replying to the visitors' 458. Asked to follow on, the Sagun Kamat-lead side were on the brink, at 170/7 when bad light stopped play on the fourth and final day at the Goa Cricket Association's academy ground on Monday.
Only opener Sumiran Amonkar gave a consistent display of his class with half-centuries in both innings (79 & 53). Even then, he could be blamed for wasting a solid start on both occasions as the need of the hour in the four-dayers, is to make big scores once the batsman gets his eye in.
Others failed to make an impression with only captain Sagun Kamat making a contribution of some note with his 47 runs in the first innings before getting out cheaply in the follow-on.
It seemed like experienced batsman Swapnil Asnodkar was unlucky to have got harsh decisions in both the innings, but other batsmen failed to make the home conditions count with the likes of Reagan Pinto, Darshan Misal and Saurabh Bandekar getting out in the twenties.
Earlier on the opening day, Goa failed to keep Chhattisgarh under a tight leash after they had visitors struggling at 123/5. Manoj Singh (125) played an important role in their recovery but not before he had been given a life by the hosts.
Goa picked up a point from this drawn match while Chhattisgarh pocket three points. Goa now face a strong Himachal Pradesh from October 14 to 17 at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.
Meanwhile, batsman Amogh Desai has been recalled while Keenan Vaz has been dropped in the only change in the Goa squad.
