Regina Martyrum win Teacher Dolorosa U-17 football title

Regina Martyrum High School, Assolna edged Rosary High School, Navelim 3-1 via tie-breaker to win the Teacher Dolorosa Memorial Under-17 girls inter school football tournament organised by Chandor Club at Church ground, on Saturday.  

Regina Martyrum dominated the game and came close to foisting the lead but striker Clency Miranda’s blistering shot hit the post in the 2nd minute. A minute later, Preeti Kevekar’s power-packed shot was fisted away by the rival goalkeeper.  

At the other end, Rosary High School girls took time to settle down. In their first attacking move, Jolinda Ferrao’s rasping shot was well blocked by Regina Martyrum goalkeeper Gauri Naik. Again, Rosary Should have netted the first goal through midfielder Jolinda Ferrao but a timely intervention by rival defender Alisha Paara denied them the opener. After the scare, Regina Martyrum’s Clancy Miranda sent a rasping shot but it was parried away by rival goalkeeper Muskan Banu.   

In the second half, Regina Martyrum continued to dominate the proceedings and nearly rocked the rival citadel when Clency Miranda’s power-packed shot hit the rival post in the 48th minute. Preeti Kevekar’s move was then foiled by Rosary defender Saina Shivolkar in the 48th minute.

In the tie-breaker, Regina Martyrum netted through Clency Miranda, Razia Pereira and Suveda Koketa while only Melifa Pereira converted for Rosary High School, Navelim. Regina Martyrum High School were richer by Rs 15,000 and a trophy while Rosary High School settled for Rs 10,000 and a trophy.   Elvis Gomes, GFA president was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up in the presence of Juliana Gurjao e Colaco, chairperson of women’s sub-committee, GFA, Celina Furtado, Chandor sarpanch, and GFA executive member Arnaldo D’Costa.
