Reliance One grab second win, AI have it easy

PANAJI

Reliance One registered a massive 61-run win against RBI in a Group A match of the Goa Corporate League 2018 at GCA Academy Ground, Porvorim on Monday.

Electing to bat, Reliance One piled up 203/6. Rohan may have been dismissed early off a searing Ankit Singh Rajpoot delivery, but this brought in-form captain, Saurabh Tiwary to the crease and together with Hitesh Dalal they put on 65-runs for the second wicket. Tiwary’s made an exact 50 (34b, 8x4, 1x6) following up on a belligerent 67 struck against Indian Oil on Sunday. His partner, Dalal 45(29b, 3x4,3x6) meanwhile took up  the cudgels to take the score past 100 as Nikhil Naik (32) played a good hand. A late charge by Tejinder who stayed unbeaten on 37 (15b, 2x4, 3x6) and keeper, Jitesh Sharma who continued his big-hitting ways with a 11-ball 30 inclusive of two boundaries and three maximums ensured the Mumbai-based side reach the magical 200-run mark.

For RBI, Chirag Parmar’s medium-pacers claimed two wickets, while fellow fast bowlers, Ankit Singh Rajpoot, Amit Mishra and leggie, Jyot Chhaya took a stick each.

Replying to a stiff target, RBI was blown out of contest mid-way the second over of the chase. The top three batsmen were back in the shed with only five runs on board and Pradeep Sangwan (2) and last match hero, Nideesh (1) wrecking havoc with their pace and control. Captain Kumar Deobarat and Amit Mehra, both making 24 tried to bring respectability to the score. With Chirag Parmar holding his end up to make an unbeaten 21 at almost a run-a-ball down the order, last-man Rajpoot went swinging to provide some crowd entertainment with a 13-ball 33 not out with three boundaries and three maximums. The unbeaten 10-wicket stand between Parmar-Rajpoot raised 37 runs for the bankers to end on 142/9.

In the Reliance One attack, upfront U-19 World Cup winner Kamlesh Nagarkoti’s thunderbolts and Pradeep Sangwan’s effective left-arm medium-pace had returns of 2/22 and 2/23 respectively, while the once most-talked about IPL cricketer, Pawan Negi had 2/19 to show for his teasing guiles. India discard, Saurabh Tiwary was named Man of The Match.

In another Group A fixture, Air India crushed Indian Oil Corporation by seven wickets. Electing to bat, Indian Oil Corporation crumbled for a mere 57 all out in 13.4 overs. Unheralded young pacer Mohan Jangra bowled with great venom, line and length to dismiss three batsmen for no runs off his first over and IOC’s second to have the batting side rattled at 10/3. The batting side could not recover from the early hiccups to lose half their side inside five overs with 15 on board. Their batting scorecard read so pathetic that it took too lusty hits for number 10, Rohan Raje to be the innings top-scorer at 12 and the only batsman to enter double digits.

For Air India, Mohan Jangra was the stand-out performer with 4/11 and he was well-supported by Rohan Ratai who impressed with 3/9. Rajat Bhatia picked up two wickets as well.

In reply, Air India got over the line at 62/3 in 8.4 overs. While stand-in captain Bhatia made 17 opening the innings, Ankit Dabas on 16 and Lalit Yadav on 12 saw the team to a thumping win. In the Indian Oil Corporation attack, pacer Avesh Khan did commendably well for 2/17 in his quota.

Mohit Jangra was later adjudged Man of the  Match.
