Goa delivered a commanding performance in the Sub-Junior Boys National Football Championship, thrashing Haryana 9-3 at the Mount Litera Zee School Ground, Punjab, on Tuesday. The star of the show was Reuben Pereira, who scored a sensational hat-trick to lead Goa’s dominant display.

Goa began aggressively, pressing high and creating early chances. The breakthrough came in the 26th minute when Rubaz Khan headed home a precise cross from Reuben Pereira. Four minutes later, a swift team move saw Ethan Carvalho set up Elmor Fernandes, whose low cross was tapped in to double the lead in the 10th minute.

Haryana briefly fought back, reducing the margin in the 30th minute after a defensive lapse allowed Rajender to score. However, Goa quickly regained control as Reuben Pereira, in top form, struck again with a sharp finish in the 27th minute, before Ethan Carvalho added another in the 32nd. Reuben completed his brace just before halftime with a powerful grounder that left goalkeeper Mohak helpless, giving Goa a 5–1 lead at the break.

In the second half, Harjinder Singh pulled one back for Haryana in the 54th minute, but Goa’s attacking momentum continued. Reuben Pereira and Savion Fernandes combined beautifully in the 62nd minute, with Reuben completing his hat-trick. Maclan Menezes extended the lead in the 78th minute, and Cassroy Fernandes sealed the emphatic win with a goal in the 89th minute. Haryana’s Rajender managed a late consolation in stoppage time.

With this resounding 9–3 victory, Goa have placed themselves firmly in contention for the title. With two matches remaining, the defending champions are poised for an exciting finish as they aim to retain their crown.
