Rossman Cruz Nagoa Sports Club, Verna prevailed over Parish Youth, Nuvem 4-1 via tiebreaker to storm into the quarter-finals of All Goa 9th Cuncolim Union Trophy inter village football tournament organised by Cuncolim Union at Government Village School Playground, Cuncolim on Monday. There was no score at lemon break.
Both the teams stared the game on a cautious note but once they struck the rhythm they called the shots against the rival citadel. Rossman Cruz had a chance through Beneston Fernandes but the striker saw his effort go off target from close range.
Parish Youth controlled the game from the defence to attack and, few minutes into the game, Schubert Colaco's pile driver sailed over the crossbar. Rossman Cruz again went extremely close on two occasions midway through the half. First it was Joshua Fernandes whose attempt from outside the box was denied by the Parish Youth goalkeeper and later Beneston Baretto's snap shot flew over
the crossbar.
Post resumption, Rossman Cruz created some decent moves but the Parish Youth defence worked well to thwart their moves. They came close to breaking the deadlock but striker Vijal Rego's scorcher sailed over the crossbar. With time running out, Parish Youth went all out and Myron Pereira smashed a powerful low drive which missed the target narrowly.
In the penalty shootout, Wilred Fernandes, Razor Braganza, Vijal Rego and Beneston Baretto were on target for Rossman Cruz Nagoa Sports Club, while only Myron Pereira found the mark for Parish Youth.
