Stavlorn ‘tricks in Zaino’s big win

Sports Welfare Club of Zaino swamped St Rock’s YC Calata-Majorda 5-1 in the GFA Second Division League (Salcete Zone) at DSYA grounds, Curtorim on Friday.The highlight of the day was a brilliant hat-trick by Stavlorn Cardozo.
Zaino started the game on a positive note and striker Stavlorn was in the thick of action as he troubled the rival defence with sporadic raids. He came close to breaking the deadlock in the very 2nd minute. However he was thwarted by rival defender. At the other end, St Rock’s slowly struck rhythm when striker Stafford D’Costa floated the ball inside the rival penalty box to Flesban Ferrao who was denied by rival defender with neat tackles in the very 5th minute.
Zaino’s breakthrough came in the 7th minute when Blasco Fernandes floated the flag kick inside the rival penalty box and striker Stavlon out jumped the rival defender and nodded in to put his team in front.
Stung by that setback, St Rock’s regrouped quickly and had a golden chance to level the score but striker Flesban Ferrao muffed a sitter after he was put on the platter in the 15th minute.Stavlon struck a second time to register his brace in the 36th minute.
At the stroke of lemon-break, Stavlon completed his hat-trick.
Post resumption, Zaino enjoy the lion’s share of exchanges and added two more goals. In the 74th minute, Anthony Baretto inflated the tally.
Down 0-4, St Rock’s intensified their attacks and two minutes later Ismael Pathan scored the consolation goal. Unfazed, Zaino went into attacking mode and Blasco Fernandes drove the last final into rival’s coffin late in the second half.
In another match, Cortalim Villagers edged past Baina Youth Recreational Centre 1-0 in a Mormugao Zone match played at Velsao grounds. There was no score at lemon break.
The lone goal of the match came in the 51st minute through the boots of Samuel D’Silva.
