Salgaocar FC defeated Goa Police SC 3-1 in the Goa Football Association’s Geno First Division League in association with Jhoncy Restaurant-Benaulim. In the match at Duler Stadium, Salgaocar started on an attacking note. Goa Police on the other hand, defended well to keep the ball in the midfield area. However, the resilient young Green Brigade found the breakthrough in the 13th minute through striker Ronaldo Oliveira.
Goa Police marched on to the rival citadel in order to make amends and were successful in getting the equaliser in the 16th minute through Siddesh Narvekar’s strike. Salgaocar’s in-form striker Ronaldo took his chance again and soon sent his team into the lead with a 30th-minute goal.
At half-time, the score read 2-1 in favour of Salgaocar FC.
Post-resumption, Salgaocar FC had to wait till the 84th minute to see Ronaldo complete his hat-trick to give his team, the edge in the league.
Over at SAG Artificial Turf, Fatorda; St Savio Sports Club-Calangute played out a goalless draw against Velsao Sports and Cultural Club. In a tightly-contested game, both teams tested each other. Both had an equal number of scoring chances, but their forwards muffed up gilt-edged opportunities.
