Salgaocar FC Juniors mauled Velsao SC 15-0 in the GFA's under 16 league match at Seraulim grounds on Wednesday. The winners led by ten goals at the breather.

Frezer Gomes and Flan Gomes found the back of the net five times each, whilst skipper Ribhav Sardesai who was outstanding at the heart of midfield and led from the front helped himself to a brace and so did Chaitan Komarpant. The only other goal of the game came off the boots of Ashwin Fernandes.

Salgaocar were on the front foot from the outset and created some early chances. One of those saw Frezer Gomes cross from the right and Chaitan who was lurking in the box sent his header goalward only to be denied by an acrobatic clearance off the line. Levy Pereira’s effort off the rebound was snapped by the keeper.

The Greens did break the deadlock, however, in the 8th minute as Ribhav who played some exquisite through balls sent the pacey Levy through on goal. Levy upon entering the box cut inside smartly with his left foot and let fly, his effort drawing no response from the keeper. Two minutes later, Frezer had netted his second of the evening as Levy got to the ball ahead of the keeper off an overhead pass by Ribhav and unselfishly squared to Frezer to tap into an empty net.

In the 15th minute, Chaitan got into the act as he finished on the second attempt a measured cross from Frezer from the right. Frezer then very unselfishly laid off for Flan to score his first of the evening, after having been put through by Ribhav. Five minutes later Frezer completed his hat-trick with a power packed right footer from the top of the box, this after an earlier effort from Flan had rebounded back into play off the inside of the upright. In the very next minute Flan found himself through on goal and calmly slotted past an advancing Velsao keeper to make it 6-0 in favour of the Greens.

The next goal saw Levy and Chaitan interchange passes on the left, the latter using his pace to break into the box and score his second of the evening. Flan then scored twice in quick succession. The first of those after combining well with Chaitan on the left and the second a tap in after Levy’s attempt had been saved on the line. The tenth goal was scored at the stroke of half time as Frezer finished off a beautifully worked move involving Chaitan, Ribhav and Flan.

Salgaocar’s goal of the evening however came courtesy skipper Ribhav Sardesai. After stringing together a number of passes, Tyson Silva found Ribhav just outside the penalty area. Ribhav’s screamer crashing into the top corner drawing huge cheer from the sparse crowd.

Flan then headed into an empty net, his side’s 12th after a smart chip from Frezer from inside the box. Ashwin made it 13 after he finished off another beautifully worked move involving Flan, Ribhav and Frezer. With two minutes to play, Frezer scored his fifth of the evening after an assist by Chaitan.

The rout was complete when Ribhav let fly from about 20 yards out in the closing stages of the game, his effort sneaking in off the inside of the upright.

Chennaiyin FC head coach Marco Materazzi was a relieved man after securing a place in the final of the 2015 Hero Indian Super League. Materazzi, whose team had won the first leg 3-0 at Pune, admitted he was tense in the dying moments of the game at the Salt Lake, despite moving ahead 4-2 on aggregate.“My problem was that if we gave away one more goal and then there would have been a possibility for Kolkata to make it to the final and that’s why I was angry and tense,” the…
