Saligao Foxes clinch Ely Memorial title in Melbourne

PANAJI

Saligao Foxes clinched the first Ely Lobo Memorial Trophy seven-a-side football tournament organised by the Goan Association of Australia Inc. in Melbourne, on Sunday evening.

Teams were divided into two groups with defending champions Saligao Foxes along with Margao Brothers and Nagoa Xacuti in Group A. In Group B, were last year’s runners-up Sao Miguel de Taleigao, Forca Divar

At the league stage, all but one team produced results, however, when the four teams moved into the knock-out stage; their performances improved and the results were decided on a tie-breaker.

Rosswyn Menezes of Nagoa Xacuti came up with some excellent displays with his skilful play and was awarded the player of the tournament prize. Jonathan Fernandes of Saligao Foxes was awarded the most promising player of the tournament as he was instrumental in creating opportunities for his team.

While the boys fought for the trophy, the ladies teamed up to form the Spice Girls and Man U girls before playing an exhibition game.
