Sao Jose de Areal SC blanked Don Bosco Oratory of Fatorda 2-0 to emerge champions in the XIth Our Lady of Fatima Cup 2022 inter-village football tournament organised by Dicarpale SC at Dicarpale football ground.

Sao Jose de Areal SC took the lead through Priston Gomendes and later doubled it through Bersal Viegas. Cash prizes and trophies were awarded to the winners and the runners-up.

Individual prizes: Best goalkeeper of final – Dezi Oliveira (Areal SC), best defender – Clinton Cardozo (Areal SC), best midfielder – Velton D’Souza (DBO Fatorda), first scorer of the final – Priston Gomendes (Areal SC), best player of the final – Ashley Andrade (DBO Fatorda), special prizes – Anthony D’Costa (Areal SC) & Vincente Barbosa (DBO Fatorda).

Cruz Silva, Velim MLA, was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of guests of honour Fr Joaquim Fernandes, Parish priest of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Dicarpale, Filomeno Costa, PI, Colva Police Station and Antonio Pango, interim president of GFA.

Karuna Foundation holds beach clean-up drive
The Karuna Football Foundation in association with the Diocesan Commission for Ecology and Village Panchayat of Colva organised a beach clean-up drive at Colva beach recently as part of the Legacy Cup held in Goa.

Around 85 under-16 players from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Goa participated in the All India inter-academy football tournament at SVD ground, Raia. The foundation held the clean-up drive to create an environment awareness activity for the girls that took part in the tournament as a special initiative of the foundation towards the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Sailing: Pearl wins back to back medals
PANAJI: Goa’s Pearl Colvalcar started the season with two back to back medals at Asian Games selection trials, followed by the Youth Nationals at Marve.

Pearl started the season on a winning note, bagging a bronze medal in the ILCA 4 (laser 4.7) Class for Youth Women at the Asian Games selection trials organised by CESC at Marve. She followed it up with another medal-winning performance at the YAI Youth Nationals in the ILCA 4 class for Youth Women at Marve. She missed the silver by a whisker and had to settle for a bronze again. Pearl, who is looking to qualify for her first appearance for India at the Asian Games, will now prepare for the Senior Nationals to be held in Mumbai from November 13.
