CANACONA
Stating that his opposition to Narkasur contests is not new and has been since 2014, Power Minister Sudhin Dhavalikar has, however, admitted that no politician can stop Narkasur unless people themselves do so.
Dhavalikar was speaking to media persons in the presence of Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar on the sidelines of his ‘Mantri Tumchea Dhari’ visit to Canacona taluka on Saturday.
When a reporter sought his comments on his widely reported statement opposing any donation to Narkasur competitions, Dhavalikar replied: “I am not making this statement on Narkasur for the first time. This has been my stand to oppose Narkasur competitions since 2014.”
“In my own constituency, though some have resumed holding Narkasur competitions, I have stopped the support of Narkasur competitions since 2014. Because of this, many unwanted things in my constituency have stopped at night. But still, if someone wants to still hold these Narkasur competitions, I can’t do anything.”
