Sporting Club of Davorlim thrashed CAC Cansaulim 4-1 to march into the quarter-finals of South Goa McDowell’s No 1 Yaari Cup inter village football tournament, organised by Cuncolim Union at Government Village School ground, Cuncolim on Monday. Sporting Club of Davorlim led 1-0 at the breather.
Sporting Club of Davorlim were on the move from the word go with Valmiki Miranda and Agnelo Colaco putting the rival defence in disarray. Persistent forays paid dividends in the 10th minute when striker Abhay Shetty slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot off a Cliffton Rebello pass.
Earlier, downpours made the life miserable for both the teams as they struggled to display positional play. CAC Cansaulim tried to come back into the game but their forwards muffed gilt edged scoring chances. At the other end, Sporting Club of Davorlim had a couple of scoring chances but their forwards misfired from close.
Sporting Club of Davorlim came back recharged in the second half and, in the 43rd minute striker Agnelo Colaco punted the ball to the far corner of the net, off a pass from Valmiki Miranda. After taking the 2-0 cushion, Sporting Club of Davorlim still looked hungry for more and Valmiki Miranda put the issue beyond doubt when he unleashed a blistering shot that crashed into the net, off an assist from Clffton Rebello in the
51st minute.
Down 0-3, CAC Cansaulim intensified their attacks and made some hot moves against the rival citadel and in the 56th minute, Santan Vaz scored the team’s only goal, off a well measured cross from Domnic Soares. However, Sporting Club of Davorlim were not too amused and killed off the match as a contest when Joe Gomes made it 4-1 and seal an emphatic win.
