Sirvodem Sports Club edged past Mandopa Sporting Club 3-2 in a Group C match of Salcete Zone GFA's Third Division League at Rosary grounds, Navelim on Monday.
In an evenly contested match, both the teams had equal number of scoring chances. Sirovdem broke the deadlock in the 20th minute when striker Christopher Vaz punished the rival goalkeeper with a clinical finish. Spurred by the success, Sirvodem intensified their attacks and unleashed shots against the rival citadel.
Julden Fernandes doubled the lead for Sirvodem in the 26th minute. Stung by that setback, Mandopa Sporting Club piled on the pressure and in the 33rd minute Joseph Gomes punted the ball to the far corner of the net.
After resumption, Sirvodem Sports Club put up an improved display and in the 46th minute Selwyn Miranda outwitted couple of defenders and beat the rival goalkeeper with nice placement. Down by 1-3, Mandopa Sporting Club took the fight to the rival camp and in the 70th minute Rovel Gomes reduced the margin.
