South Goa United Club Of Sports And Culture emerged victorious, defeating Belgaum United Football Academy 2-1 in an absorbing semi-final clash of the Vedanta U-15 Youth Cup, at Sports Complex,Sinquetim Navelim, on Friday.
South Goa United initially broke the deadlock in the sixth minute when Elton Fernandes capitalised on a keeper's under-pressure situation, intercepting a pass in the right corner, and placing it nicely with a left foot shot into the corner of the goal to give South Goa United the lead.
Later, in the last quarter of the match, South Goa capitalised on the lead and scored in the 52nd minute when Alex Fernandes took a reflex shot from the high ball pass in the penalty area and gave South Goa United a lead of 2-0.
However Belgaum United Football Academy tried to come back in the match with a late goal scored in the 55th minute by Mutun Meitei after a defensive error from South Goa United’s goalkeeper Rhyce Barreto failing to clear the ball which resulted in a scoreline of 2-1.
In another heated and exciting semifinal at the same venue, FC Goa defeated Bengaluru FC with a score of 2-0. The first half of the match was dominated by FC Goa, with Freden Mendes converting a free-kick with a brilliant right foot shot into the right corner of the goal to deceive the goalkeeper of Bengaluru FC Isak Mungpianthanga in the 26th minute.
Post half time, FC Goa doubled their lead through Sam Pereira who scored with a first touch finish after a brilliant cross from the left flank from Sweedon Costa in the 52nd minute securing a victory with the score of 2-0.
