Sporting Clube de Goa announced the commencement of their 2024/25 football season with the prestigious Bhausaheb Bandodkar Trophy.
The first match of the season will be played against Pax of Nagoa on August 19 at 4 pm at the Duler Ground. In preparation for the season, Sporting Clube de Goa held a Thanksgiving Mass at Caranzalem Church to thank for last year’s good performance and to have a good start for the upcoming season. The players and officials received blessings and well wishes for a successful and prosperous season ahead.
Goans Hockey selection trials on Aug 19
PANAJI: Goans Hockey will conduct selection trials on August 19 at the Peddem Hockey Ground to choose teams for the upcoming Hockey India National Championships.
The Junior Men’s team will compete in Jalandhar, Punjab, from September 9 to 19. The Sub-Junior Men’s team will play in Chandigarh from September 23 to October 3. Junior players should report to Riyaz Kambali by 3.30 pm. The selection process will be overseen by Warren Dias, Carl D'Souza, and Inacio Fernandes. Sub-Junior players should report to Aviraj Madgaonkar at the smaller ground by 3.30 pm. The selection will be monitored by Candida Fernandes, Warren Dias, Carl D'Souza, and Inacio Fernandes.
The cut-off dates for eligibility are January 1, 2005, for Junior and January 1, 2008, for Sub-Junior players. Players from South Goa are encouraged to travel to the North for trials; transportation will be arranged if there is a larger group.
Dempo's Jordic among India U-17 probables
MARGAO: Dempo's Jordic Abranches is the lone Goan to figure in the 24-player probables list for the Indian team which will play two friendly matches against Indonesia. The India U-17 men's squad, currently training in Srinagar for the SAFF U-17 Championship in Bhutan and the AFC U-17 Asian Cup Qualifiers in Thailand, will play two friendly matches against Indonesia U-17 as part of their preparations. The matches will be played in Bali, Indonesia, on August 25 and 27.
Quartet shine at archery competition
MARGAO: David Fernandes, Aashrit Saghee, Sarthak Hyam and Sniti Gaonkar bagged gold medals in the Archery competition organised by Zito Archery Club Goa at Fr Agnel Central School Pilar. Results: 20 Mts recurve: Sniti Gaonkar (Gold), Samarth Salunke (Silver), Chhavi Desai (Bronze); 15 Mts recurve: Sarthak Hyam (Gold), Ganaradhya Rane (Silver), Musa Mir (Bronze); 15 Mts recurve: Aashrit Saghee (Gold), Jash Manaware (Silver), Umsh Mashelkar (Bronze); 20 Mts recurve: David Fernandes (Gold), Carl Menezes (Silver), Dhruv Naik (Bronze).
