St Anthony’s Sports Club of Assolda edged past Sporting Club of Davorlim 1-0 to enter the last eight stage of Fr Basilio Andrade memorial inter-village football tournament, organized by St Rock’s Youth Club of Calata Majorda at Musson ground,Majorda on Thursday.
St Anthony's Sports Club were the brighter of the two teams and set about with attacking purpose. They did threaten time and again but were unable to make most of their chances. After change of ends, St Anthony's continued to dicate terms and Velson Fernandes and Ivan Pinto could have put his team in front but the duo fumbled at crucial moments infront of rival goal. The all-important goal of the match was scored soon after resumption when Cruz Gomes unaleased a volley which crashed into the net off a pass from Velson Fernandes. Sporting Club of Davorlim tried their best in search of the equalizer but failed to get past the rival's stubborn defence.
