St Anthony’s Sports Club Marna trounced Holiday Sports Club Arpora by a 6-1 margin to advance ahead in the Calangute Panchayat Soccer Cup, organised by Calangute Association, at Poriat grounds, on Tuesday.
Marna colts proved to be too good as they scored at regular intervals. It was Pushparaj who opened the floodgates as he got hold of a pass from Joel Fernandes and placed the ball into the far corner of the goal, 1-0. As the match progressed Marna pumped in two quick goals in the 25th and 27th minute through the boots of Anslem D’Souza and Pushparaj who netted his brace, 3-0.
On crossing over St Anthony’s hunger for goals did not end with Sherwin Lobo netting a brace and Dalesh Pednekar adding his name to the scorers list, 6-0. Their never-say-die spirit saw Arpora score a consolation goal through a neat placement by Sael Morajkar, 6-1.
On Monday, Goan Warriors stormed into the semis of the Calangute Panchayat Soccer Cup, with a solitary goal win over Saligao United Sports Club.
In the first session a power-packed strike by Saligao United’s Michael was saved by Goa warrior keeper Jason. On crossing ends in the 50th minute Goan Warriors broke the deadlock when Shane Fernandes set up Projot Arolkar who scored from close quarters, 1-0. Minutes later once again Goan Warrior keeper Jason brought a smart save of a strike from Michael. In the last ten minutes of the match, Saligao went all out in search of the equaliser but Jayesh and then Sachin failed to score.
