Former deputy chief minister and Mapusa MLA, Francis D’Souza is being treated at the Healthway Hospital, Old Goa, where he has been admitted almost a fortnight back.

D’Souza, who was admitted for some infection, is reportedly serious even as doctors are monitoring his condition.

The Mapusa MLA’s son, Joshua D’Souza, confirmed his father has been admitted for infection in the hospital and he was responding to treatment.

“He is being treated for infection and recuperating. He should be back home very soon,” said Joshua, who is a councillor in Mapusa Municipal Council.

The Mapusa MLA did not attend the recent three-day budget session of the State Legislative Assembly.

It may be recalled he was also not able to attend the monsoon session of assembly in July-August 2018 due to his ill health.

Except for a brief public appearance when he attended an official function and addressed a small gathering in the presence of Urban Development Minister Milind Naik on January 15, by and large the ailing MLA kept out from public glare.

However, he has been meeting and interacting off and on with councillors and supporters at his Mapusa residence.

D’Souza is suffering from colon cancer and was treated at Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai and later flown to US, where he was treated at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre in New York.
