St Anthony’s Club Colva rally past UC Benaulim

MARGAO: St Anthony’s Club Colva held their nerve in the tie-breaker to defeat United Club Benaulim 5-3 and book their place in the semifinals of the Holy Trinity Trophy football tournament, organised by PYA Consua in association with Football Friends Benaulim, at St John the Baptist Ground, Dando Benaulim.

Benaulim broke the deadlock two minutes into the second half when defender Sidroy Baptista sent a long pass forward to Klyne Fernandes, who unleashed a powerful shot past the Colva goalkeeper in the 42nd minute.

Their lead lasted just two minutes, however, as Colva drew level through Calburn Fernandes, who connected with a well-delivered cross from Vicky Cardozo.

With neither side able to find a winner in regulation time, the match went to a tie-breaker. Colva converted through Calburn Fernandes, Bevan Goes, Vicky Cardozo and Dinu Raikar, while Osbourne Fernandes and Luis Menino scored for Benaulim.

Calburn Fernandes was named Man of the Match. The award was presented by GFA executive committee member Andrew Ferrao and former Benaulim goalkeeper Amilcar Babush Pereira.
