St Joseph Institute, Vasco along with the staff, PTA, SMC and the students of Chowgule Education Society felicitated Goa’s young squash champion Yash Fadte at Ravindra Bhavan, Baina, Vasco on Thursday.
Fadte was felicitated for his feat of winning the U-17 US Open Junior Squash Championship 2017. He is the only Indian to win the elite youth level tournament. Fadte has been a competent player and has bagged several other awards in various tournaments held across the country and oversees.
The award was presented by the Arjuna Awardee Brahmanand Sankhwalkar in the presence of Carlos Almeida, MLA, Vasco; Alina Saldanha, MLA, Cortalim; Krishna (Daji) Salkar, Ward Councillor; Deepak Naik, Chairperson, MMC; Ashok Chowgule, Chairperson, Chowgule Education Society; Avito Fernandes, Principal, St Joseph Institute; Sandeep Shirodkar, Chairman, PTA and Shekhar Verlekar, Chairman, School Management Committee.
On the occasion, guest of honour, Sankhwalkar said: “It is an honour to be a part of this function where young talented students like Yash are being felicitated for their tremendous hard work and success. I appreciate the institute for organising this function and for honouring this young champion in the presence of all the dignitaries, staff, parents, teachers and students. Along with sheer support and encouragement, what one needs is the driving force and this has helped Yash to grow and achieve success. Parents should support and encourage their children to work hard and fulfil their passion. I wish Yash and the students present here all the very best.”
Alina Saldanha said: “It is a proud moment for all of us and especially for the state of Goa to have young champions like Yash who make us feel proud and happy. It is the perseverance and commitment to the game that has brought all the success. I would like to advise all the students to follow in his footsteps and make him your role model. Hard work and determination surely pays off and it is the tireless efforts that brings recognition all over the world.”
Carlos Almeida said: “Yash has made the country proud by winning this prestigious tournament. We would like to see him as the world’s number one player and I am sure he will continue to make us feel proud. I congratulate Yash and his parents and wish him all the best for his future endeavours.”
Top scorers of SSC examination, 2017 were also awarded with cash prizes during the function. Various cultural and entertainment programmes were performed by the school students on the occasion.
