St Mary's High School, Varca beat St Joseph High School, Aquem 2-1 via tiebreaker to win the Dawn to Dusk Don Bosco Invitational Under 16 five-a-side football tournament at Don Bosco Grounds, Benaulim.
Both the teams displayed attacking brand of soccer and as a result there were few thrills at either end. Both had equal number of scoring chances but their forwards squandered from ideal position. Crossing over, both the teams continued in similar vein and showed urgency but defenders stood tall in protecting their citadel intact. St Mary's High School, Varca had the last laugh in the penalty shoot out.
Earlier in the semi-finals, St Mary's High School, Varca beat Our Lady of Fatima High School, Rivona 3-2 on penalties while St Joseph High School, Aquem blanked St Pius High School, Orlim 2-0. Sidroy and Ashley were the goal-getters for winners.
Earlier the tournament was inaugurated by Fr Thomas Fernandes. St Mary's High School, Varca were richer by Rs 5,000 while St Joseph High School, Aquem had to settle for Rs 3,000.
Fr Edison Fernandes was the chief guest and gave away the prizes and certificates to the winners and runners-up in the presence of guest of honours Fr Marvin Vaz, Fr Adrian Pinto. In all, 20 teams participated.
Individual prizes: Best Player: Arron Rogrigues (St Mary's);Best Defender: Allan Fernandes (St Joseph); Most Creative Player: Ashley Colaco (St Mary's).
