St Sebastian Union Benaulim defeated St Anthony’s Club Colva 3-1 to lift the Holy Trinity Trophy Benaulim Constituency Inter-Village Football Tournament, organised by Football Friends Benaulim in association with PYA Consua.
In an action-packed final, Benaulim took the lead in the 10th minute when winger Maxwell Rodrigues converted a fine pass from Claudsen Goes with a right-footed strike past Colva goalkeeper Steward Falcao.
Colva responded two minutes later, with defender Beevan Goes heading home a cross from midfielder Samson Gomes to level the score.
Maxwell restored Benaulim’s lead in the 15th minute with a neat finish following an assist from Vishal Fernandes, giving his side a 2-1 advantage.
Colva pushed forward in search of an equaliser after the break, but Benaulim capitalised on the openings. Striker Arif Pathan sealed the victory ten minutes before full-time with an intelligent lob over the advancing Colva goalkeeper.
Chief guest Capt Venzy Viegas presented the winners with the trophy and cash prize in the presence of ZP member Colva Anthony Leo Mam Fernandes, GFA executive committee member Andrew Ferrao, PYA Consua president Fausto Monteiro and other dignitaries.
Elias Fernandes welcomed the gathering, while organising coordinator Anthony Rodrigues compered the function.
St Sebastian Union Benaulim received Rs 35,000 and the trophy, while runners-up St Anthony’s Club Colva were awarded Rs 30,000 and a trophy.
