MARGAO: Veteran powerlifter Stephen Gomes, 46, delivered an outstanding performance by clinching two gold medals at the All Goa State Bench Press Championship 2026, held at Curchorem.
Competing in the 83kg bodyweight category, Stephen not only secured top honours but also recorded the heaviest bench press lift across all age groups in the 83kg division, underlining his dominance in the competition.
A stalwart of Goa's powerlifting circuit for more than 22 years, Stephen first made his mark by winning the Goa University Strongest Man title in 2003. Since then, he has built an impressive career, earning numerous medals at national-level powerlifting championships.
Stephen credited his success to the guidance and support of his coaches Satish Mandrekar, Razashad A. Shaikh and Nehal Komarpant, with whom he is seen after his medal-winning performance.
