Goa's combat-sport athletes Erica de Sequeira and Giovanna de Sequeira recently met Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Ramesh Tawadkar, who appreciated their achievements and dedication while assuring encouragement for their continued sporting journey.
During the meeting, the sisters shared details of their training, championship experiences, upcoming competitions and aspirations of representing Goa and India at national and international events.
Tawadkar commended Erica and Giovanna for their hard work, discipline and commitment to sport. He encouraged them to pursue their goals and expressed his willingness to extend support through the appropriate Sports Ministry processes.
Erica delivered a standout performance at the South Zone Ju-Jitsu Championship 2026, held in Hyderabad on September 5 and 6, winning four gold medals while representing Goa. Her performance also earned her selection for the Nationals.
Giovanna recorded an impressive medal haul at the same championship, winning two gold, one silver and one bronze medal.
Both sisters train under coach Ronnyy at the Academy of Combat Sports Goa (ACS-GOA).
The meeting provided encouragement to the young athletes as they prepare for higher-level competitions and work towards representing Goa and India on national and international platforms.
The sisters expressed their gratitude to Minister Tawadkar for his appreciation, encouragement and willingness to support their sporting aspirations through the appropriate ministry channels.
