Tournament favourite Tejas Shevde ÂÂÂÂ won the men’s singles crown at Gadre Gaspar Dias Open 2018, beating Rachit Ayappa in the final at Clube Gaspar Dias, Miaramar on Monday. With the crowd behind him, Tejas came out with his A game to defeat Rachit 6-3, 7-5.
In the popular ladies singles category, Simran Khan took on Rutuja Prabhudessai in the finals. Simran overpowered Rutuja to win 6-1, 6-1. This is the third consecutive year that Tejas and Simran have been crowned champions at the tournament.
In the men’s doubles category, the pairing of ÂÂÂÂÂÂTejas and Rachit overwhelmed Nathan Chowgule and Saidja 6-3, 7-6. In the mixed doubles category, Tejas and Simran took down Rajendra (Bulu) Godinho and Sharmain Godinho in a fiercely fought match 6-3, 6-4.
The finals of the U-16 boys category saw Aman Bundela triumph over Dattaraj Naik 4-0, 4-0 while over in the girls U-16 category, Rutuja Prabhudessai won against Shayra 4-0, 4-0 to claim the winner’s trophy. The U-12 category of boys and girls put up a splendid performance in the tournament and are future stars in their own right. In the U-12 boys, Dattaraj Naik won the finals defeating Puneth 5-4, 4-1 while in the U-12 girls category, Simran Bundela came from behind to defeat Jaya 4-5, 5-4, 5-3 to win the finals.
Nathan Chowgule, President, Goa State Tennis Association (GSTA); Aakash Khaunte, Chairman “ Sports Committee, Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias; Rajesh Khaunte, President, Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias and Sunil Naik, Secretary, Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias, gave away the trophies to the winners at the award ceremony held after the finals.
