TOI beat Gomantak to enter inter-media cricket finals

The Times of India defeated Gomantak by 10 wickets in the first semi-final to enter the final of the inter-media Cricket tournament from Group 'A' of the Inter-Media cricket tournament.

Mayem MLA Premendra Shet was the chief guest at the inauguration which was held on GCA Ground Porvorim. GCA President Vipul Phadke and Secretary Rohan Gauns Dessai were present as guests of honour. GCA Director of Coaches Prakash Mayekar and SJAG President Mahesh Gaonkar were also present on the occasion.

The three-day tournament is being organised by the Sports Journalists Association of Goa (SJAG) in association with the Goa Cricket Association and the Sports Authority of Goa. The final will be played at the GCA Ground, Sanguem on Saturday, December 9.

In the semi-finals on Thursday, Gomantak reached 47/7 in their allotted seven overs. The Times of India reached the winning target in just 4.4 overs without losing a wicket. Prasad Patil contributed 17 runs and Sardar Raut contributed 18 runs. Prasad Patil also shone in the bowling, taking four wickets including a hat-trick giving just four runs in his two overs.

The opening match was played between Gomantak and Tarun Bharat. Gomantak defeated Tarun Bharat by 24 runs. In reply to Gomantak's 74, TB could only manage 50 runs.

Meanwhile, Times of India defeated AIR-DD by 33 runs. Batting first, TOI restricted AIR-DD to 48 for 5 after scoring 81 for 3. Then, the Times of India defeated Lokmat as they chased down a modest target of 36 runs set by Lokmat in 4.3 overs for the loss of just one wicket.

Group A of the seven-over tournament consisted of Pudhari, Gomantak, Tarun Bharat, AIR-DD, Lokmat and Times of India. Group B matches will be played on Friday. The group includes The Goan, Goan Varta, Prudent Media, Electronic Media, Prime Media and Navhind Publications. The second team in the final will be decided after Friday's matches.
