UC Nerul blanked St Savio Sports Club, Calangute 2-0 to enter the final of North Goa McDowell's No. 1 Yaari Premiere Cup inter village football tournament organised by Anjuna Gymkhana, at Anjuna Gymkhana ground
on Tuesday.
UC Nerul were off to a flying start as they scored in the sixth minute. Sanket Jotkar unleashed a stiff shot that slipped from the hands of the Calangute goalkeeper and a lurking Anson made no mistake in pushing the ball in. Stung by the early setback, St Savio Sports Club regrouped and took the fight to the rival camp. They however were unlucky when striker Ashley fumbled in front of the rival goal with only the goalkeeper to beat.
UC Nerul meanwhile came roaring back as they scored their second goal when Sanket Jotkar -- who had a good game -- sent a high cross which forced the rival goalkeeper Selwyn to come out of his position trying to avert the danger. However, Bhavesh punished the goalkeeper as he beat him with a snap shot.
In the 45th minute, St Savio Sports Club missed a golden chance after a rival defender had conceded a spot kick. The penalty taken by Charles was acrobatically saved by UC Nerul goalkeeper Sidesh Morje. In the last 10 minutes of the game, St Savio Sports Club fired on all cylinders and pressed hard for the goals and conjured two scoring opportunities but Vichal and Blake Haldankar muffed sitters.
UC Nerul will cross swords with St Anthony's Sports Club, Marna-Siolim in the summit clash on August 19.
