Union of Chinchinim Villagers edged past Chandor Club by a solitary goal to enter the quarterfinals of the Fr Bruno Leitao football tournament at OL of Hope Church ground, Chinchinim.
The all-important goal of the match was scored by Shenoy Oliveira in the second session. Sunny Fernandes of Chinchinim was declared the Man of the match.
Mahila Nutan HS, King's HS in semis
Mahila Nutan HS of Margao and King’s HS of Sao Jose de Areal moved into the semifinals of the 20th Mukund Trikannad cricket tournament organised by Margao Cricket Club at Dr Rajendra Prasad Stadium, Margao.
In the first match, Mahila Nutan defeated St Joseph’s Institute of Vasco by 7 wickets while in a one-sided second match of the day, The King’s School easily beat New Educational Institute of Curchorem by 9 wickets. Scores: St Joseph Institute, 151-4 in 25 overs (Shiven Borkar 54, Dwij Palyekar 44; Atharv Borkar 2-41) lost to Mahila Nutan HS, 154-3 in 24.2 overs (Atharv Borkar 82*, Samarth Rane 44; Dwij Palyekar 2-26); New Educational Institute, 56 in 16.2 overs (C Venkat 7-12, Aradhya Goyal 2-9) lost to King’s School, 57-1 (C Venkat 29*, SK Gaurish 16).
Hockey camp held at Honda HS
Pilar Fathers - Sports for Youth Development organised the 3rd Pioneer hockey coaching camp recently at Honda High School, Honda, Sattari. It was a beginner’s level hockey coaching camp for girls in the age group of 10-14 years.
The camp was a collaborative effort with professional-level assistance from Hockey Heritage Group Goa, Stars of Sattari Hockey Club, Wanderers Hockey Club, Doha and Honda High School, Honda. The camp had a participation of 27 girls, all students of Honda High School, Honda. The coaching was led by technical director Alexander Remedios and the session plans were executed by two young coaches, Brendon Noronha and Gaurav Singh.
The session plans for the 10-day camp had the objective of training the children in a professional manner while inculcating correct techniques and values of sport at the grassroots level. The children were brought to the Peddem astroturf hockey ground, Mapusa on the last two days of camp, to give them an understanding of playing on a full-sized hockey field and learning player positions on the field.
Narvekar appointed NWC prez of hapkido boxing body
PANAJI: The Hapkido Boxing National Federation (HBNF-India) has appointed Usha Deepak Narvekar as its NWC (National Women's Commission) president. Narvekar is a former national kabaddi player and an archer associated with many State level and National level archery events in Goa and India. She is the vice-president of Goa Hapkido Boxing Association. She was instrumental in organising National Hapkido Boxing Championship in Goa. Narvekar represented Goa at the national level in many junior kabaddi championships.
