United Club of Nerul got the better of FC Sanquelim by a narrow 1-0 margin to enter the quarter-finals of the North Goa Mc Dowell’s No 1 Yaari Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Salgiao United at Duler Ground, Mapusa on Sunday.
Raju’s self goal in the first half proved to be the only difference. FC Sanquelim dominated proceedings in the opening session and enjoyed better ball possession.
The all-important goal scored by Raju was a result of misunderstanding between the goalkeeper and Raju which resulted in the ball entering the net.
FC Sanquelim squandered few easy chances when their forwards muffed sitters from handshaking distances. At the other hand , United Club of Nerul were far from impressive.
Crossing over, FC Sanquelim too had their share of chances and looked to double the score, however their strikers muffed sitters. With time running out, United Club of Nerul pressed hard for the equalizer but their forwards blasted wide from close range.
