Riding on a fine brace from Jonas D'Costa, Varca Sports Club edged United Boys of Dando-Colva 2-1 to enter the quarter-finals of All Goa 26th Super Soccer tournament organised by United Boys of Dando-Colva at St John the Baptist grounds, Dando- Benaulim on Saturday. Both the teams were tied 1-1 at lemon-break.
Both the teams started the game on cautious note. As the match progressed, Varca took control over the match with their forwards and midfielders working in tandem to put the rival defense under tremendous pressure. Jonas D'Costa put his team ahead in the very 2nd minute when he punished the rival goalkeeper with a stiff shot. Stung by that setback, UB Dando-Colva regrouped quickly and in the 26th minute, Jesus Cardozo cancelled the lead.
After the break, both the teams showed urgency and essayed many forays into the rival half but defenders stood tall in protecting the citadel intact. With match heading for tie-breaker, Jonas D'Costa struck the match winner a minute before the long whistle to troop out worthy winners.
