Vasco Veterans edged out Bardez Veterans 1-0 to move into the semifinals of the 1st All Goa Veterans soccer tournament organised by Texas Boys Varca at Varca football ground on Thursday.
In an absorbing encounter, the teams showed attacking intent but the first half ended goalless. Vasco Veterans came close to finding the lead but Uday Naik shot wide from close range. Bardez Veterans also made some threatening advances but Shailesh Misquin’s blistering shot was well blocked by rival goalkeeper Cruz Pereira.
After resumption, both the teams went all out in search of the elusive match winner. Alexander Fernandes’ shot was well collected by the rival goalkeeper. The all important goal came late in the second half when Bhibi Fernandes found an ideally placed Krishna Shirodkar, who slotted past the rival goalkeeper. Ramesh Vinodkar of Bardez Veterans was adjudged as the Man of the match.
