Velsao Sports and Cultural Club rallied from behind to defeat Goa Police Sports Club 3-1 in the Geno GFA First Division League, at Rosary ground, Navelim on Monday. The teams were tied 1-1 at half time.

Goa Police started the game game on an attacking note, asking constant questions of the Velsao defence which was left clueless time and again in the initial period of the game. The cops were unlucky when Shaikh Mouzzan Saliya’s snap shot hit the post. Their breakthrough came in the 20th minute when Mouzzan fed midfielder Abdul Khan who made no mistake in putting it past Velsao goalkeeper Presley Mascarenhas with a neat finish.

The early goal helped the cops to mount good pressure on the rival goal. At the other end, Velsao Sports and Cultural Club threatened when Klusner Pereira sent a rasping shot but it was well fisted away by Goa Police goalkeeper Niklesh Naik. In the 41st minute, striker Savio Fernades did all the work and unleashed a stiff shot to beat the Goa Police goalkeeper, 1-1.

After the break, the Velsao side started to dominate the game. In the 65th minute, midfielder Klusner Pereira intelligently fired home the ball over an advancing rival goalkeeper Niklesh Naik to take the lead. Two minutes before the long whistle, Oilex Olveira sealed the rival fate when he drew out the rival goalkeeper after picking up the ball from Charles Miranda and punted the the ball to the far corner of the net.
