Young Welbert Rodrigues is a student of the Holy Cross HighSchool in Bastora, Bardez. A student of Standard X, he is earmarking signs ofmaking it big on the Konkani stage someday in the future, provided he ispassionate enough to continue acting. He is undoubtedly a gifted actor and cansing with equal ease. Welbert was the the cynosure of all eyes when he playedthe role of ‘Xembu’ a typical dhoti clad Goan Hindu in the Children’s tiatr‘Bhurgemponn’ presented by the children of St Elizabeth Parish, Ucassaim at theon-going TAG Children’s tiatr festival.
What was most fascinating about this boy is that he is wellcomposed and absolutely at ease on the stage whether whilst acting or singing.He surely must have been a good inspiration to the few children who werepresent in the audience. The Goan caught up with this child artiste in the GreenRoom and learnt that he was the recipient of the Best actor award at the secondTAG Childen’s tiatr festival in 2011 and he also bagged the Kala Academy Bestactor award for the tiatr competition 2012. Young Welbert played the role of aHindu with natural flair and had the audience enjoying every move andreciprocated with a thunderous applause. It would be interesting to watch theprogress of this talented child artiste on the Konkani stage.
