West Zone India Ladies, comprising of players from Goa, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Gujarat, clinched the gold medal at the 2018 Societe Generale National Zonal Rugby 15s Championship
on Saturday.
This is the highest honour for a contact rugby player and the eves of Goa led the way, considering eight out of the selected 22 players in the winning team were Goan. En route to their title win, West Zone India Ladies maintained a 100% record by beating the other teams -- South, North, East and Central. In the final, they beat East 24-5 with Goan girls Claudia Crizzle and Latisha Khedekar featuring on the scorers list.
Earlier, West Zone India Ladies thrashed South Zone India Ladies 24-0 on Friday. The championship win guaranteed them a passage to the National Camp where they will prepare for the Games to be held in Singapore in June. The championship was held at Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar, Punjab from
April 10.
