3 Goans in India futsal squad

Three Goans feature in the 14-member Indian futsal squad announced on Sunday.

The team, which will play two international matches against hosts Bahrain, will play international futsal for the first time. Augustine D'Mello (goalkeeper) and anchors Sachin Patil and Kashinath Rathod are the Goans in the squad. The players have been selected based on their performances in the Futsal Club Championship, held earlier this year.

The head coach is Joshua Stan Vaz. The futsal players, who have been training in Amritsar, will travel to Bahrain on August 10, where they will play two matches against the hosts on August 12 and 14.

Kuwait Masters, Bardez Veterans play out goalless draw
Kuwait Masters, consisting some famous Goan football stars from Kuwait, played out a goalless draw against a formidable Bardez Veterans team in an exhibition match at Duler ground.

Bardez Veterans featured the likes of keeper Vicky Sharma, Gavin, Alex Alvares and a galaxy of who’s who of Goan football while Kuwait Masters were made up of retired Goan stars from Kuwait and led by captain Joe Pereira. They consisted Julio, Michael, Gaby, Sandy, Philip, Jacky, etc. Kuwait Masters had beaten Bardez Veterans 2-1 in an exciting match last year in July.

Modern pentathlon trials at Fatorda
PANAJI: Modern Pentathlon Association of Goa will conduct Final Stage Selection to pick Goa team probables (men and women) for the coaching camp to select the teams for 37th National Games 2023. The selection trials will be held at PJN Stadium outer ground, Fatorda on August 7 at 3 pm.

The athletes will be selected for Laser Run (Run-Shoot-Run), Biathle (Run-Swim-Run), Triathle (Run-Swim-Shoot-Run) and Tetrathlon (Run-Swim-Shoot & Fencing) events of the National Games. Athletes have been asked to contact Kirtan Vaiz at PJN Stadium at 2.45 pm with a copy of the Aadhaar Card. Players above the age of 16 years are eligible to take part in the final round.
