Arpora Sporting emerged winners of the first-ever ANB Unity League, beating KDR Boys of Arpora 3-1 on penalties, in a 5-a-side football tournament organized by Happy Boys, at St. Sebastian Ground, Arpora.
Both teams were 1-1 at full time with Rujal Sangodkar opening the account for Arpora Sporting, and KDR Boys’ marquee player, Pruthvesh Pednekar, quickly equalising. But it was Arpora Sporting that prevailed in the tie-breaker with goals by Bhavesh Gawas, Saidutt Haldankar, and Rujal Sangodkar. Pruthvesh Pednekar converted for KDR Boys.
Pruthvesh Pednekar emerged as the league's top scorer with eight goals, while Ashmit Paswan of Holiday Sports Club Arpora was adjudged the best goalkeeper with 3 clean sheets, and goalkeeper Nitesh Chavan of KDR Boys of Arpora scooped up the player of the tournament award by scoring a goal for his team and making crucial saves as well.
Local panch member Julius D'Souza said the two-day event was a resounding success and that Season 2 of the ANB Unity League was in the wings.
