Assonora United FC set up a date with Raia Sporting Club in the finals of the 22nd Vagator Soccer 2022 organised by Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club at Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club ground, Ozran.
Giant killers Assonora were drawn against the mighty Candolim Sports Club in the inaugural match of the tournament, where the match ended in a 1-1 draw and Assonora won via tiebreaker 4-3. In the quarterfinals they were up against strong opponents St Anthony's SC Marna, Siolim and after a goalless regulation period they won by a margin of 4-3 in the shootout. Having won both their previous matches in a tiebreaker moving into the semis, a hard-fought battle against yet another tough opponent ABC Sports Club Arambol saw them win 3-1 and book their spot in the finals.
On the other hand, hot favorites Raia Sporting Club began with a thumping win over PVC Association 4-1. In the quarters, they locked horns with Parish Youth Nuvem in a feisty battle, where in spite of being down to 10 men, they managed to win by a 2-0 margin. In the semifinals, they faced Goa Velha Sports Club, defeating them 4-1 comfortably to seal their place in the finals.
Both the teams deservingly made it to the final where Assonora United look sturdy and solid at the back and can find ways to counter and break opposition defences while their opponents, Raia Sporting Club look unstoppable with their attack fully loaded from all the sides. The final will be played on Sunday, August 7 at 4.45 pm.
