Praising Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant for instituting the Bandodkar Memorial tournament on the 50th death anniversary of the first chief minister of Goa, GFA president Dr Caitano Fernandes said that the launch of the tournament will give a boost to football in the State.
"I am grateful to the Chief Minister for instituting this tournament. It is a great tribute to our first Chief Minister Dayanand Bandodkar, who was an ardent lover of football. The GFA will organise this tournament in the best possible manner, together with GFDC and DSYA as a fitting tribute to our beloved Bhausaheb."
The GFA president added that the GFA Executive Committee has granted a window in the first two weeks of January to conduct the tournament. "We will conduct the tournament in the first or second week of January when the ISL has a break for the AFC Asian Cup. We are targeting to invite at least four outstation teams," Caitano stated.
After incorporating a grant of Rs 6 crore towards football development, this is the second major announcement by Chief Minister Sawant during the tenure of Caitano. “I have received tremendous support from the government so far and I am sure the government will support me in my remaining tenure," said Caitano.
